We discussed what we are going to be doing with the Green Grant, we went over the Facebook "Causes" section for Social Capital Inc. To join our cause, and to donate, go here http://apps.facebook.com/causes/367033/82643953?m=27597a89

We also discussed Internet updates (Facebook, and webs.com). Twitter is now in the picture with that, http://twitter.com/jagyouthcouncil

Going Green with 'The Lorax'

Bench Marks

December

1.                TheJAG Youth Council will present their ideas to the school staff and thePTO.  They will develop a slide showexplaining the project in detail. Concluding the presentation the Council with facilitate group discussionand answer questions.  


2.                TheCouncil will develop surveys and interview questions in order to gathercommunity data to identify environmentally conscious behaviors.  The youth also plan to interview storemanagers to gather data regarding the sales and consumer use of reusable bagsand the cost to store in purchasing plastic bags for consumer use.


January

1.                 The Youth Council will distribute and collectcommunity surveys and conduct interviews.


2.                Theyouth will collect articles and news clippings about global warming andenvironmental sustainability.  We want tounderstand and educate others on the importance of this issue and what we, asindividuals, families, schools, and community can do to help. 


February

1.                 The Youth Council will analyze data and willdevelop a press release for the local newspapers, community and schoolnewsletters, and the local cable and radio stations. 


2.                Thecouncil will develop and order needed supplies, including the reusable bags,“The Lorax” books, and education materials.


March

1.                TheYouth Council will plan logistics of the Earth Day project with teachers.


2.                Theyouth will develop teacher packets with discussion guides and distributematerials for each classroom. 


April

1.                TheEarth day project will be incorporated into classrooms before April Vacation. 

 

2010 Student “Green” Summitintentions


The JAGYouth Council will be attending the 2010 “Green” Summit next spring.  We look forward to sharing our “Go Green withthe Lorax” project with other students in New England.
