1. The JAG Youth Council will present their ideas to the school staff and the PTO. They will develop a slide show explaining the project in detail. Concluding the presentation the Council with facilitate group discussion and answer questions.
2. The Council will develop surveys and interview questions in order to gather community data to identify environmentally conscious behaviors. The youth also plan to interview store managers to gather data regarding the sales and consumer use of reusable bags and the cost to store in purchasing plastic bags for consumer use.
January
1. The Youth Council will distribute and collect community surveys and conduct interviews.
2. The youth will collect articles and news clippings about global warming and environmental sustainability. We want to understand and educate others on the importance of this issue and what we, as individuals, families, schools, and community can do to help.
February
1. The Youth Council will analyze data and will develop a press release for the local newspapers, community and school newsletters, and the local cable and radio stations.
2. The council will develop and order needed supplies, including the reusable bags, “The Lorax” books, and education materials.
March
1. The Youth Council will plan logistics of the Earth Day project with teachers.
2. The youth will develop teacher packets with discussion guides and distribute materials for each classroom.
April
1. The Earth day project will be incorporated into classrooms before April Vacation.
